We need everyone to do this. Johnson Valley is a 4 Wheeling Mecca that may be lost forever.

If you think you can't handle putting your own thoughts on paper, cut and paste my letter and add your name to it. Or you can use the letter generator available at Cal4wheel.com.

Letters can be sent via snailmail to:

Naval Facilities Engineering Command, Southwest ATTN: 29Palms EIS Project Manager
1220 Pacific Highway
San Diego, CA 92132-5190

Dear Sirs,

I am greatly saddened by the proposed closure of the Johnson Valley OHV area and expansion of the Marine base. I have been recreating here with my family since the 1970s and have many fond memories of camping, riding motorcycles, and driving 4x4s here. I have also watched the surrounding communities thrive as a result of the many OHV users passing through who have helped boost these local economies. Any action toward closure would greatly affect all of these communities and OHV users alike.

Percentage-wise, there are more OHV users in the United States than there are of many minority groups. For many like minded OHV enthusiasts like me, four wheeling is a way to express ourselves, connect with family and friends, get away from life’s problems, and work through personal issues. It has developed into a culture in itself. This needs to be addressed in the EIS, as the impact on our culture will be greatly affected.

Even partial closure of the area would be devastating as OHV users have little space left to recreate. So much has been taken from the OHV community that we are only left with small strips of land that quickly become overcrowded because there is nowhere else to go. We have been constantly pushed around by environmentalists and proponents of land closure for OHV use that any land lost today is land lost forever. Johnson Valley is the last bastion for OHV users. It's the last stand. It's all we have left. Please, please take heed and do not take more. I support the military and the brave Americans who stand up to serve our country. I support the Marines. I do not support this proposed closure of Johnson Valley OHV.

Thank you for your time. Semper fidelis.

Best regards,

Christian Lee
