I have a chance to buy this Discovery for 1200.00. I don't know anything about them. Everything works, the interior and paint are in bad shape.
I need something to pull a 18ft bass boat and to do light offroading.
Any insight would be most welcomed.

If it's in running condition that's a fair price and a pretty good price at that. i've had pretty positive experiences with the Disco and have seen them perform well on the trail. there is also a lot of aftermarket support for the disco compared to other Land Rover models. i believe the V-8 engine should be up to the task of towing your bass boat without any issues and the rig is plenty capable of light off-roading and more.

the only bad i can think of when it comes to the Disco is what I've heard from owners who say that mechanic visits can be expensive and often and parts are priced somewhat higher than other brand vehicles. if you're capable of doing your own labor and fixing minor issues then this won't necessarily be an issue for you.

hope this helps. 'wheel on.

It does, I know that the mid 80's models had alot of issues, just don't know about these. I can fix alot and have freind that can fix, what I cannot. The wife drives a Volvo, so I know about expensive parts. We just replaced the alternator, at 200.00.
Thanks for your opinion. bassnutt.
