I own an '07 FJ, Love everything about it. Now this has been discussed on the other forum, but looking for different points of view,(If anyone is still on the forum). I want to swap in a V8 from one of the other Toyota offerings. I know the HP difference is minimal but I want that V8 sound & feel. Would I be Yo-Yo for doing such a swap for basically just the sound? Thanks for the feedback if any shows up.........

I've seen it done on a few Toyota show vehicles. The 4.7 looked like it fit in there with room to spare. I don't know if someone offers a "kit" per se, but I know for sure it's been done. Anyone else know?

I'm glad you like your FJ. I think getting a V8 to communicate with the other FJ electronics would be necessary. Of course, you could completely strip the FJ (engine compartment, most of the harness, computers, gauges, HVAC, etc.) and build it up from scratch, but that wouldn't be very smart, IMHO.

Anything can be done, but maybe you should enjoy your FJ Cruiser as-is and get an earlier FJ40 or Toyota pickup for a V8 swap.

You could probably get similar power out of the 4.0 V6 with the TRD supercharger. It wouldn't sound as cool as the V8, but would give you the power you're looking for.

The 4.7 Toyota I-Force V-8 should be a great fit. It only makes sense, since the '03-'09 4Runner is offered with either the 4.0 V-6 or the 4.7 V-8.

The easiest way to do a V-8 swap would be to find a wrecked '07-'09 V-8 4WD 4Runner and pull the complete drivetrain and electronics. I say '07-'09 because most engine swap laws mandate that you install an engine that's the same year or newer than the vehicle it's going into.

It also bears mentioning that just because you can doesn't mean you should! The 4.7 V-8 isn't that much more powerful than the 4.0 V-6. In fact, the horsepower numbers are almost identical. The torque numbers are where the V-8 has a clear advantage over the V-6.

I'd say enjoy your FJ with its stock drivetrain. It works great. If you feel you must have a V-8 Toyota, I'd pick up a clean used '03-'09 4Runner. In addition to the available V-8, the visibility in the 4Runner is way better than the FJ. I've driven both.
