I was wondering the same thing, since I'll be out there this weekend too.

I found june's plate yesterday at the ohv park. 60 mph winds climbing up a rocky sandy dune, fun. We left Phoenix at 5:30 a.m. and found it at noon.

We got our June issue on Wednesday April 1st. I found the coords the next day and we left on Friday morning. Today is April 30th and we just got our July issue.  We get ours in the mail, not from the store. The previous plates were found before we got our magazine too. Luck of the draw I guess.

We're close enough that we might make a try for it, but probably won't.  We wouldn't be able to take advantage of the prize, and would rather someone local to the area find it instead.

Good Luck,

Tom H.

This thing's actually in the offroad park, should be an easy find!  Anyone going for it?

Has anyone looked for this one (July Geostash) and not found it?  Maybe MIA?

The July 2009 GeoStash marker was found at the Superlift ORV Park in Hot Springs, Arkansas.

The next contest is the August issue marker.

Ok the next one is again waaaaaaaaay west. Might as well be Hawaii as far as a Minnesota Jeeper is concerned. Nice though for a trip.  Go luck guys.

We were wondering what Map Datum you were using to place the geostash? Also, in the latest bunch of numbers you are using 4 digits after the decimal instead of 3. What is the difference in that?

My guess is it is coming straight from a GPS and using the default "NAD 83 was also developed using satellite and remote sensing imagery and is the default datum on most GPS units today."

Each month, once we find the hidden numbers (extra tricky in August issue) I use google maps to find where it is.  It's right every time, but they've either been too far away, already found, or I was not able to get away.  People in the North West should be happy this month.

OK, I can't claim to be the brightest bulb in the box of spares . . . BUT, unless I'm wrong and there is a BAD misprint in the North and West coordinates for August's geostash, the license plate is hidden somewhere about one-quarter inch off-shore of southwest Washington State as viewed in my 2004 Rand McNally Road Atlas.  In the Pacific!!!  Somebody please tell me I'm wrong, and I don't have to hire a salvage barge and divers in order to retrieve it.  It ain't in my budget, boys and girls!!

My brother found the coordinates for aug so we drove 3 hrs and searched 3 more, we could find nothing but pine cones and elk poop. I was using wgs84 datum , and even tried nad83 datum. The area was undisturbed except for a short log with a chainsaw cut almost all the way through that was turned over recently and the sawed off leg of a deer from last fall, maybe a hunter that doesn't know what it is found it. Anyway we had fun!
