im new to the jeep world and might be buying a grand cherokee limited its a 5.2L all wheel drive. everything looks alright on it except the 4x4. when i shift it into 4low theres no problem, but when i shift it back into normal all wheel drive it grinds and doesnt want to go into gear. somethings still spinning in there?? any ideas what it is?

Proper speed is important in engaging in and out of Hi to low and low to high. 2 to 3 mph no faster, from hi to lo shift transmission to neutral, then shift the transfer case lever firmly and quickly to low without pausing. from lo to hi again no over 2-3 mph and shift firmly and quickly without pausing in transfre case neutral. If this is what you do and still have the problem, then check/change fuild. I believe this is a belt driven diferentral, Jeep did change it in 96 to chain or gear. hope this helps, good luck.
