I've been running the numbers on Edmunds.com this morning. What's the real value of a 1987 Dodge Raider with AC and AM/FM/CD (aftermarket) with 155k original miles, all orig parts except belts, alternator, radiator exhaust and battery. Good BFG mud tires on it, with a grill guard too. Overall condition is clean, color is red, paint needs to be buffed out to shine, but no rust, no repainting, and only one small ding below the turn signal. Interior condition is very good, but the current owner removed the back seat and no longer has it. Truck appears to be on the original clutch.
Edmunds says from a private party this truck is worth around $400. Seller is asking $1500, I wondering if he is smokin' or what? BTW, Kelley Blue Book says the 1988 version of this truck would be worth $850, I'm guessing that for another year older Kelley would say about $650 (kelley doesn't go back to 1987).
Is this vehicle really worth a premium over the Kelley and Edmunds values??

Honestly, at some point it gets down to what people are willing to pay. My folks sold a '90 Buick Century for $3,500 when blue book value said it was only worth a little over $2,000. I guess the buyer liked it enough that they were willing to pay the premium for it. If it's in good enough shape, I'd counter $1,000 even. If they say no deal, then just walk away. Who knows, they might call you back if they don't get any takers.

yep, they may be asking a higher price to allow for haggling room. like sanchez says, it's all in how much you are willing to pay for it

Well, you could post it as a "Mitsubishi Montero" and if anyone asks when they see it up close and it says "Dodge" you can tell them it's essentially the same thing (which is true). Might get more takers if you post it as a Monty.

the dodge raider/mitsubishi montero isn't a bad ride. i almost bought one several years ago, but it had more issues than i had money at the time.

Just wondering if you're still wanting to sell it. If you are, what are the specs on it, what shape is it in, and where are you located? I had an 88 Raider and I loved it. I kept it til the frame rail rusted away and went through the floor of the cab. I miss it.
