I RECENTLY PURCHASED A 1986 CJ7 FOR PARTS.  IT HAD A DANA 44 REAR AXLE AND THE MOPAR EFI INSTALLED.  I WILL PUT THE AXLES ON MY 1982 SCRAMBLER.  I DON'T KNOW ABOUT THE EFI THOUGH.  I'VE READ EVERYTHING I CAN FIND ABOUT IT AND IMPROVED PERFORMANCE SEEMS SURE BUT WHAT DOES IT DO FOR GAS MILEAGE?  BETER? WORSE? SAME?

I don't know this for a fact, but I would imagine the fuel injection would improve the fuel economy considerably. I mean, it's never going to be a Prius, but I would guess it would probably give you about 2 mpg better. Anyone else have the FI kit on their 4.2?

i have a 4.0 with the throttle body injection. i average 20mpg. a deffinate bonus to using efi rather than a carb, is no gas sloshing around in a fuel bowl, so your motor will never be starved for gas. as far as injector maint. goes, i just dump in some stp and shoot some carb and choke cleaner into the throttle body.

Standard for 4.0 is mpi, 6 injecters. They don't get good milage, about 18 max in a jeep.

Yeah, but I think the old carbureted 4.2s got something like between 12-15!
