I was wondering if i could swap a 73' chevy 350 into my 92' yj jeep and pass a ca smog test, and if so what would i have to do to pass.
Thanks for your time.

I don't think you can get away with that in California anymore. If it were a '73 Jeep receiving a '92 engine it wouldn't be a problem. however, it is my understanding that an engine must be the same year or newer than the vehicle in which it is installed in order to pass smog. The new engine must retain all of its original, functioning emissions equipment, and any aftermarket performance equipment that has been installed must have a California E.O. number assigned to it to keep your swap legal.

Once the swap is complete you’ll need to go to a referee station to get the swap approved. There will be a $30 charge and the referee will inspect the installation process, engine year, and all emissions equipment for proper operation. If you pass you’ll get an Engine ID sticker to identify the engine as an approved swap. You can find a local referee station through your local DMV.

Yeah. No way, Jose. Only swaps allowed in CA is the same-year or newer engine into the same-year vehicle. Sorry.
