Hello, I'm new here, so I hope this is the right place to put this. I have an 82 shortbed 4x4 4 speed that is beat to heck with no title, and an 81 longbed 2wd that is pretty well used also, but I have a title for it. They both have the 22r engine, but the 4wd one pukes oil and coolant like crazy. The 2wd has a VERY well maintained engine, etc. Does anyone know how big of a headache it might be to swap out the tranny/transfercase, front and rear ends? I think it might be relatively simple barring any hidden problems. I just want it for a trail buggy. Anyone have experience in this???? I might just jump in head first and tackle it.

The eazy way is to take your good parts off the 2wd (ie)motor and swap it into your 4x4frame. Most of the swap is remove & replace.

New reply to an old thread...
What's involved in getting a new title for the 4x4? It might be less work to do the paperwork than it would be to do the mechanical work of swapping frames, cabs, etc.
I would swap the 2wd engine into the 4wd and see about getting a new title for the 4x4.
Make sure you swap the radiator along with the engine! I'll bet the 4x4 radiator is clogged. Also, make sure your radiator reservoir bottle is clean. I had a dirty radiator reservoir bottle once, and the dirt got pulled into the radiator and clogged it. I didn't realize my mistake until I'd fried two engines.
