Do you guys think the FJ Cruiser should be offered with a turbodiesel option? If so, what kind? 4-cylinder? V-6?

I am always all for the installation of a turbodiesel option in off-road vehicles. The only problem with Toyota currently is that I am not sure they have a robust enough diesel engine option available.
Toyota has some four cylinder units in production but the really juicy 6 cylinder diesels are still in development. I have a feeling Toyota is taking a wait and see approach with diesel engine tech. All I know is, the darn thing doesn't need a HYBRID!

I don't what the hold up is on Toyota's part, other than the fact they're so fixated on hybrids right now. Toyota does own Hino, after all, one of Japan's premier medium and heavy-duty truck makers! In fact, they showed a Hino-powered Tundra at SEMA this past year. Looks like they're possibly making moves into the 3/4 1-ton market.

Well, another big issue has been the impossibly strict CARB standards. I think that has left a lot of companies sitting on the fence deciding what their US diesel strategy is going to be. But once they can get that hurdle cleared, I think diesels are the perfect powerplant for off-roaders: torquey and fuel-efficient.
