i live in oregon and i have found that central oregon has plenty of adventures for any kind of wheelin you would want from muddin to rock crawlin

IMO the best place to wheel in Oregon is the Oregon Dunes.  You have 17 miles of beach and thousands upon thousands of acres of open dunes and Sand Trails to ride on.  Oregon has the longest set of continious dunes in North America.  Particluarly the section from Spinreal Staging to Horsefalls staging is perfect for 4x4's.  I can take you on a run like that and not cross the same piece of sand twice in 8 hours of trail riding.  Not crawling high speed stuff I have tried t convince the mags to cover this section of the dunes, but they are only interested in Sand lake.  Which is what I consider the armpit of the oregon dunes.  Small stinky, and full of stuff you don't wanna touch  

I fully agree on the sand lake philosophy, if you wanna play on the dunes at least go to Florence, we have in Oregon, a place to wheel in or around almost every town, I live at the base of Goat mountain, and that's where I spend the most time, I've been in the same place for 35 years and it's never boring. I've heard about places near Yakima and snoqualmie pass but have never gone up there in the jeep. 4wd and sport utility mag. has done articles from coos bay, roseburg, northern Washington, and even a snow run that was in my area.
santiam has lots of logging roads to explore not to mention Olallie lake where sometimes you can manage to score a German brown trout. go through Detroit, to Estrada or sandy, you'll find lots of excitement, Oh.. Mr Shawn, I still have sand in my Rubicon from last years excursion. seems you can never get it all out but it's worth it.  right?  

The sand on the Florence dunes is a blast but you'd better have some good horsepower to fully enjoy it. Paddle tires are a big plus too. If you've got a really low geared rock crawler and tall mud tires...it takes some LOW air press and some big HP to get on top.

For any of you traveling up near Portland, Tillamook State Forest (it's between Portland and the coast) has some great trails...and most are marked with skill levels.

BTW, I'm in the process of moving to Bend from Florence so if any of you know some good trails in the area, let me know. I hear the 'snow wheelin' is great.  

the Northwest has very diverse terrain to wheel. West of the Pacific Coast Trail is most likely to be wooded and wet. East of it can be wooded, high desert prairie or rolling farm /ranch land. Living in the Northwest is all about exploring the back country, it's all good.

theres a really cool place called "the patomac" in nw MT. that has all sorts of diff trails(easy to hard),mud holes,rocks, trees, game trails and old log skidder trails,go up to a fire lookout tower and seem like your on top of the world cause you can see forever! its cool...i mean miles and miles of terrain to go through and have fun the hole day or weekend if you prefer...off "beavertail exit about 45 miles east of missoula then north off the interstate.
mudb8 knows where it is cause he trucks right by there on his otr runs.
we should all get together and go!
