I am in shocked that I cannot order or obtain the color, let alone the OEM colors for my tops on my CJ7 and YJ. Bestop say Oh Well guess we cannot make everyone happy. Is it not a Jeep Thing to be able to personalize your Jeep. Oh I guess everyone that owns a CJ7 is happy with a black top and 3 colors for the YJ. At lease that is what Bestop says. I have found out that The raw material colors are available. But Bestop refueses to make the top in Blue Denim or Sand. I know that it is hard to fight the corporate greed. But hey Having a patent for the making of the tops and refusing to make the color that the Jeep came with is wrong.   Need help to find a shop that will take my material and make my tops would be great. I would like some feed back

I agree with you that more choices should be available however a good upholstery shop should be able to fabricate a custom color for you

Thank you for the reply. I have tryed a couple of good and recomended shops here in town. Just to replace the nylon zippers, that do not last very long, on my doors windows. They were able to do it but not the same pattern. What I have found out is that Bestop has a patent on the tops and any shop that trys to make one is breaking the law. However I have been told that on my 83 CJ7 that might not be the case. I beleive if more Jeep owners feel the same has I do about color selection and being able to personlize your Jeep, not just with lifts and after market add ons, but also the color and style, We need to write to Bestop and see if we cannot get them to change there mines.

We've tried for years to get Bestop to offer more colors.  Unfortunately, they don't have much call for the earlier model tops anymore and, accordiong to Bestop, most of the requests they do get are for black.

While this doesn't help you with your CJ5, we've heard that Jeep Accessories (Mopar) may be offering YJ tops again soon.  We haven't heard if they're only going to be black, or will be available in other colors, too.

Thank you Phil,
Bestop has told me the same thing about black was the color of choice. Well when it was the only color they offered for several yrs, now I can understand that. How ever I did buy a dinim blue top for my CJ7 about 7 yrs ago from a supply that just happen to have one in stock. The door skins were a joke, poor craftsmenship, bad fit. Bestop said they were sorry, but nothing they would do about it. well I have heard of suppliers that have old oem parts available, just can't find them. Any Ideas? That is somewhat good news about Mopar.

Whitco was the top company that supplied AMC back in those days.  I did a search and found this company:

http://www.austinjeeps.com/tops.html

It looks as if they have found a few NOS (New Old Stock) tops.  You might try them.

Pardon my spelling (accordiong) in the earlier post.  I only type with two fingers because of an accident and hit two keys at a time quite often.  I need to remember to check before hitting post!

That was must been fun. I just relocated back to Tucson from Whitefish, Montana. Love it there and miss it. I have another question concerning my 91 YJ, 206k miles on it and the factory auto disconect has failed finaly. Looking at the 4x4 posi disconect. Have you all check it out and have any opions on it. My 97 cherokee at 205k is stil working great. Thank you again for the good info.
