on the Atlas-4SP t-case you can et gearing as deep as 10.34. do you think it has a practical use? when would you need gearing that deep?

Hello - I know this post is pretty old, but I see no replies and wanted to chime in.  Have you ended up putting an atlas in your rig?

I am looking around and may pick up one of these 10.34:1 4 speeds.  Practical?  Depends on your trail intentions.  The practical part of this T-case is the other two speeds below high range, which are at 2.72:1 (standard low range) and 3.8:1.  Most trails in Moab would go swimmingly at 3.8:1.  The 10.34:1 would only come in handy for me coming down big obstacles - no brakes needed, and mounting an obstacle for observation (i.e. Am I going to smash into my crossmember on this line?)  Any momentum is out of the question in 1st or 2nd gear.

Having the option there is awesome, but it would see very little use in any application.  In my case, I am using a stock tranny in a Cherokee and the crawl ratio is 140:1 in first with that set up.  In 5th gear, it would be a little faster than stock first gear low range at 26:1.  So as far as getting anywhere with any speed, forget about it.  With those other two options at the tip of your fingers, though, this thing has incredible range.

I kinda like the idea of the 2.72 and 3.8 in the same package the 10 is just a bonus, it would be great for the downside, My rubicon at 4 is to slow on the sand and sometimes high range is just to high, it would be nice to be able to have the gearing at hand for whatever you happen to be doing. it also sucks in the snow because it spins out to easy. how about a 3 speed? if we could get enough weight we could use the jeep to pull around a plow.
