What affect have the increased gas prices had on your lifestyle & hobby? Have they changed anything?

Of course it's had an impact on my...everything. It's the reason that in the last few weeks I've seriously contemplated getting a bike to ride around town and day trips with just my wife...or friends.
As much as I love my Jeep, I would garage it in favor of a bike for the gas savings, and take it out for trips during the time of year I can ride the bike.
I've had to forego some trips because of a busy July, where I have 9 days of wheelin' planned from Independence Peak, to the Morrison Jeep Trail/Cooke City, to Divide Ride several days later. That will tape me gas wise until sometime in August when I might get in a trip to the Little Belts before settling down for the winter wheelin'.

It's been pretty major in my planning for building a rig. Whereas in years past I might have stayed with a gasoline engine for a trail rig, I've pretty much decided that any future rig of mine will have to be a diesel as it will have to be a daily driver as well as a toy. My current wrangler is pretty thirsty and I hope that Jeep is listening to the demand for fuel efficiency, and I don't mean one or two MPG better. When you can by a Defender, or even a Wranger , overseas with a diesel that gets high 20's, you have to wonder what our domestic manufacturers and importers are thinking!

high gas prices have an effect on everything. notice how your grocery bill is higher now? that's because the higher fuel cost (farm implements all the way to the trucks that bring the goods in) are being added in. this goes for everything throughout the consumer cycle.

I saw a Samurai with a VW TDI swap in it, and thought that would be a sweet little rig with fuel prices what they are. Granted, diesel is expensive per-gallon, but that thing would probably get 40+ mpg, and have lots of torque.
Plus, I don't know about in your area, but lately, it seems diesel prices have held relatively steady while unleaded has continued to go up.
