Kevin,
Are you saying that on the 15th of Aug you will post the second set of coordinates for the Oct 2007 contest? Or the 15th of Sept 2007?
Jim

The coordinates for the GeoStash contest are now split. Read the first paragraph on the GeoStash department on page 22, Oct. issue of the magazine. This will explain what has happened to the coordinates. In short, the west coordinate will be split into two parts and be hidden in the magazine, the complete north coordinate will be posted on 4WD’s website the 15th of each month. This change gives both subscribers and newsstand purchasers a fair shot at the GeoStash prize.

Thank you very much for reading the magazine.

Have a great day…

Jim,

Yes I will be posting north (latitude) coordinate for October 2007 on this forum. I will do so on August 15 five days from now.

The September marker was found a while ago. I am out of the office at the moment traveling so I don't have that issue of the magazine with me or my list of past coordinates, otherwise I would post them. I’ll do so next week.

Sorry for the confusion here, I know the threads on this forum seem not to have any order and that it is difficult to find pertinent information about the contests but my web guy assures me he is working on it, hopefully they will be working in flawless form very soon.

Have a great day Jim…

I'm sorry I have to ask another stupid question. It says you will post the North coordinates in the "FORUMS Community Voices"? I can not find this any where on the site. Will the coordinates be posted in this thread??

KF6PLH,

There are no stupid questions! Ask away...

Due to the confusion of the new forums I will post the coordinates here and in "Forums Community Voices" under "Latest GeoStash Updates."

If you have any other questions please don't hesitate to ask, I'll be more than happy to answer them.

Thank you for reading the magazine and participating in GeoStash.

Kevin,

Any idea what time on the 15th you'll be posting the north coordinates?  BTW, the new format is genius.  Even though I'm a subscriber, the stash is always found before my issue is delivered.  Thanks for leveling the playing field.

August 15th, October 2007 GeoStash Coordinates

Ok GeoStasher’s I humbly apologize, I won’t blame you if you would like to throw me down and beat me for this as I probobly deserve it! We have had an emergency illness on staff, the person who was going to plant the marker today is extremely sick. He tells me he won’t be able to plant the marker for another 48 hours. This places me in a very bad situation so please be patient. I will post the North coordinate here on Friday August 17, at 1:00 PM sharp Pacific Standard Time. There is a chance it may be planted a little earlier, if so I will post the coordinate immediately.

Let’s hope this month’s official marker guy speeds to a very quick recovery. Again I humbly apologize, hopefully you haven’t already packed up your vehicle and are ready to hit the trail this morning. I was going to jump in my Jeep last night and drive over 900 miles to plant the marker but I don’t think I would have made it in time. All I can do today is throw myself at your mercy.  Please keep in mind that the markers are planted as close to the release dates of the magazine and the posting of the coordinate on the website as possible. This is done so the casual four-wheeler, hikers, and explorers don’t accidentally find the marker before you do.

On a positive note some readers have brought up the point that most of the markers have been hidden in the west. There are a few factors that come into play here. One is the lack of open areas we can hide the markers on the east coast and winter. I am doing everything I can to get more back there for you. I might be letting the cat out of the bag here but in the next 5 issues 3 of the markers will be hidden in the east.

If you have any questions what so ever please feel free to email me at kevin.mcnulty@primedia.com, I'll take the heat!!!!!

That's OK, things like illnesses happen. I'll not dispense any beatings over it.

I think it's fair to spread these things around, but since I'm in San Jose I'm hoping you don't ignore the Left Coast too much!

I'm curious as to why you need "open areas" to place the markers. Do you mean open as in public places, or open as in terrain favorable to GPS reception? If the latter, I wouldn't worry about that. I've found thousands of geocaches in all sorts of challenging locations and often it just adds to the excitement.

Thanks for the update, Kevin. And get well soon, marker placing dude.

JeepDave,

Believe me I feel terrible about the hold up of the GeoStash coordinate, so I do sincerely apologize. This makes me look bad, but what can I do, we are all human.

We can’t have people out there looking for it as my marker guy is hiding it.

What I meant by "open" areas is public land the folks back east can still wheel on. At this point there are very few places they can go to wheel. It's very unfortunate and hopefully this doesn't happen here on the west coast. But you know as well as I do the evil forces are hard at work to shut as down here in the west as I write this!

Again if anyone would like to beat me up via email, kevin.mcnulty@primedia.com

Anyway thanks for your patience, have a great day…

WHOA!!!  Hold on there partner! I think you are giving away to many secrets already. Hmmmm.... now let me figure 900 miles into triangulate by the squares of the west coordinates. DAM.... I was never very good at math anyway. Friday works better for me anyway.

Hope all is well with the marker guy.

Soooo, is this a conspiracy to keep the "Latest Geo-Stash Updates on top of the Heap?
